A 25-year-old man who was arrested after a two-vehicle crash in Ladder Hill, Wheatley has been bailed until June 8.
At 2.45pm a black Peugeot travelling in Ladder Hill from the direction of Garsington to Wheatley was involved in a collision with a blue Vauxhall Zafira travelling in the opposite direction.
A woman in her 40s was taken to hospital and remains in a life-threatening condition. Police confirmed a man has been arrested on suspicion of driving while above the legal alcohol limit and on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
He was last night still in police custody.
South Central Ambulance Service spokesman David Gallagher said: "We were called at 14.41 to reports of a two-car head-on collision on Ladder Hill, Wheatley.
"We sent two officers, an ambulance and the air ambulance to the scene.
"We had one female, mid 40s, with hip and leg injuries who was taken by land to the John Radcliffe."
Commuters reported a closed road and "massive delays" in the area.
