A SCHOOL that took part in Camouflage Day said it was vital their pupils learned about the armed forces.

Youngsters from Gateway Primary School in Carterton dressed up in camouflage to raise money for the charity SSAFA (Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association), which supports members of the armed forces and their families.

Diane Chesher, family support worker at Gateway Primary School, said: “Everyone in the whole school dressed up.

“We did it for the first time last year, and because it was a great success we decided to do it again.

“This year we raised £200 for SSAFA. The day is important for the school to develop relationships with the community.

“We have a lot of children from armed forces families. It was a fabulous day and everyone had a great time.”

Flight Sergeant Kris Sullivan, based at RAF Brize Norton, added: “I was the gym instructor for the day.

“It was fun to give something back to the community and nice for the kids to see what their parents do at work.”

SSAFA spokeswoman Lucy Walters said its next challenge event is the Ride of Britain in September, which involves fundraisers cycling 500 miles in five days.
