THE acting deputy chief constable for Thames Valley Police has officially been appointed in the role.

John Campbell was chosen by a selection panel, including the force’s new chief constable Francis Habgood, on Friday.

He joined Thames Valley in 2010 as assistant chief constable, holding the crime and operations portfolios.

Mr Campbell said: “It’s a real honour to have been selected as deputy chief constable.

“I look forward to building on Francis’s successes in the role and supporting him in serving residents across the Thames Valley.

“There are financial challenges ahead for the force, but we have a good track record of reducing crime while managing the impact of those cuts.

“My key role, along with others, is to make sure our communities have a police service that meets their needs and keeps them safe.”

Mr Habgood said: “I am delighted to announce that John will be taking over the role of deputy chief constable for TVP.

“Having spent six years in the role myself, I firmly understand the opportunities and the challenges he will be presented with.”

He added: “I have every confidence that with John’s excellent experience he will deliver for the organisation.”
