GARDENING enthusiasts in West Oxfordshire will have a chance to get their hands on some free compost courtesy of the district council.
West Oxfordshire District Council will be giving away 150 bags of compost procured from recycling initiatives, which collected more than 10,000 tonnes of garden waste from homes across the district.
Residents can also collect free food waste bins and caddies, kitchen caddy liners, recycling box nets and Love Food Hate Waste recipe books.
Home composting bins will also be available for £10.
Free compost will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Waste and recycling officer Sian Stokes said: “Home composting is still the cheapest and most environmentally friendly way to deal with garden and food waste like peelings, as it requires no transport or processing.
“Composting is simple to do and the end result will bring many benefits to your garden – improving your soil and helping to cut plant disease.
“As well as selling discounted home compost bins at the giveaway, our experts will also be on hand to answer any questions.”
The event will be held on Friday, May 1 at The Leys in Witney between 11am and 2pm.
