NETBALL classes are being launched in Bloxham to invite women to rediscover the classic school sport.

The Back to Netball sessions have already been introduced by Cherwell District Council in Chesterton, near Bicester, teaching women the rules of the game and training techniques which can then be put into practice at an end-of-session match.

The weekly classes will be held at the Warriner School, Bloxham, beginning on Thursday, April 16.

Ian Davies, Cherwell’s director of community and environment, said: “Lots of women will remember playing netball at school and enjoying it.

“Having trialled these classes in Chesterton we found there was a huge interest from ladies keen to discover a love of the game. As such, we are now rolling out the sessions in Bloxham to encourage more women to take part.”

Attendees must be female and aged at least 16. Cllr Davies added: “Regardless of whether it’s been five, ten or 20 years since some ladies last picked up a ball, they are more than welcome to come along and revive their passion.”

Back to Netball is part of the council’s work in support of the national This Girl Can campaign, which promotes sport among women.

The new sessions run from 6.30pm to 7.30pm and cost £2 per person. For more information or to reserve a place call 01295 221806.
