AN ESTATE is to be “blitzed” in a council clean-up next week to help residents go green.

Cherwell District Council cleaning teams will target Bretch Hill, in Banbury, in a bid to remove litter, graffiti and dog mess. Flytips and abandoned cars will also be cleared.

Lead member for Clean and Green Tony Ilott said: “Bretch Hill is one of our largest and busiest estates and as such sometimes it needs a little bit more attention to get it gleaming.

"Our officers will be working hard to blitz the streets, parks and verges but we want residents to get on board and show their support.”

The clean-up will run from Monday to Friday and will also see residents who put out blue or brown bins in line for prizes including a blue bin, a bag of compost or a year’s supply of compostable liners.

Mr Ilott said: “Everyone who puts a blue or brown bin out for collection will automatically enter a prize draw to win some goodies. This will show that recycling is not only easy and good for the environment, it can pay too.”

Residents will also be eligible to buy discounted recycling bins at £10 and register for free bulky waste collection of up to three items. From 3pm to 5pm next Wednesday a recycling roadshow will run at Bradley Arcade car park.
