A CRACKDOWN on dog owners who don’t clean up after their pets could see fines issued by local council workers.

New powers give Banbury Town Council staff the authority to hand out on-the-spot fines of up to £75 for littering and £50 for dog fouling.

Five town council workers can issue fixed penalty notices and will be able to use cameras to gather evidence.

They have been given the powers by Cherwell District Council, which already carries out enforcement. Those who refuse the pay the fine could face court action and a maximum fine of £4,000 for dog fouling and £10,000 for littering.
