HEADTEACHERS at small primary schools across Oxfordshire have been encouraged to contribute to a Government review of teachers’ workloads.

The scheme, which was announced by Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg, is intended to let teachers have their say about “unnecessary” workload such as administration and how to tackle the problem.

Councillor John Howson, Liberal Democrat spokesman for education on Oxfordshire County Council, said: “These are some of the teachers facing the biggest challenges with both classroom responsibilities and having to handle all the admin of the school, often with limited support.

“Now we teach children, not classes, workload has increased as teachers are trying to maximise the potential achievement of every child. I would encourage all teachers to make suggestions about how workload can be reduced, although teachers will always work a form of flex-time, with longer hours during term time.”
