A 67-year-old man died after apparently falling into a cellar window following a night out drinking, an inquest in Oxford heard yesterday.

Roger Callow, of The Paddocks, Deddington, was found outside a property in New Street in the village in the early hours of May 23.

The retired kitchen assistant had last been seen leaving the nearby Crown and Tuns pub.

Opening the inquest at Oxfordshire Coroner’s Court yesterday, coroner Darren Salter said: “It appeared he fell into a cellar window, where he died.

“He was found just after midnight by the owner of the property.”

A post-mortem report showed he died after suffering a head injury.

The inquest was adjourned for a full hearing to be held on September 17.
