BANBURY MP Sir Tony Baldry has written to Labour leader Ed Miliband complaining about a tweet posted by an Oxfordshire councillor.

Labour county councillor for Banbury Calthorpe Mark Cherry’s feed posted a message on social networking website Twitter, which compared the Conservative Party’s employment and housing policy to Nazi Germany’s treatment of the Jews.

Sir Tony, right, said the post “intolerably seeks to trivialise the horrors of the Holocaust” and has asked Mr Miliband whether Mr Cherry should have the Labour whip.

Writing to the Labour leader, the Banbury MP said: “During the 30 years in which I have been a Member of Parliament, I have always sought to treat my political opponents, both in the constituency, and at Westminster, with respect which I hope is mutual.

“I am thus sad that I have to draw to your attention the conduct of a local Labour councillor, conduct that demonstrates lack of tolerance, insensitivity, very bad taste and intolerably seeks to trivialise the Holocaust.”

Mr Cherry, who was elected at last year’s county council elections, told the Oxford Mail his account had been hacked.

He said: “I apologise for any offence caused. It has been dealt with now.”

The Labour Party did not return the Oxford Mail’s call.

Oxfordshire County Council has said it has received no official complaints about Mr Cherry.
