ABOUT £1.15m has been raised by the Claire Squires Fund in memory of the runner who died after collapsing one mile from the finishing line of the London Marathon two years ago.
Ms Squires, 30, a hairdresser, was raising money for the Banbury and District Samaritans, a charity with which her mother was involved.
A total of 81,135 donations have raised £944,176 for Ms Squires’ JustGiving page over the past two years, plus an additional £202,550 in donations through Gift Aid.
Some of the funds will go to the Banbury and District Samaritans to help run the organisation for a decade.
An inquest in early 2013 found that her death was likely the result of Ms Squires taking a legally- available performance-enhancing drug. News of the total comes after Robert Berry, 42, collapsed and died after completing the London Marathon last Sunday.
Mr Berry was raising money for the National Osteoporosis Society.
