New restrictions will be placed on day release for prisoners at Bullingdon Prison, near Bicester, and others in the UK.
The nationwide limits have been ordered by Justice Secretary Chris Grayling after a series of serious crimes were committed by offenders temporarily out of prison.
There will now be tighter rules on eligibility for the scheme, prisoners will only be allowed out for a specific purpose and once the technology becomes available they will wear an electronic tag.
