A PAST president of Faringdon Rotary Club has been elected Oxfordshire’s new district governor.

Tim Cowling will take over from John Greening on July 1.

The role also covers Berkshire and parts of Buckinghamshire and Middlesex and Mr Cowling will represent almost 2,400 Rotarians.

To prepare, Mr Cowling has visited every club in the county and those areas.

He has been a Rotarian since 1998 and joined the Faringdon branch in 2005.

He said: “This is a great privilege and I am excited by the challenge.

“I will put a strong emphasis on membership as we want to attract people who share our passion for making a difference in the world, as well as having fun.”

Rotary worldwide backs a drive to eradicate spinal disease polio.

Fundraising for that scheme would be continued, Mr Cowling said.

Faringdon Rotary Club meets on Wednesdays at the Bell Hotel on Market Place, Faringdon.
