MORE than £8,000 is set to be given to youth groups by Oxfordshire County Council.

Some £8,150 is set to be handed out from its ‘Chill Out Fund’ by cabinet member for the voluntary sector Hilary Hibbert-Biles.

This includes £3,000 for Oxford Junior Ice Hockey Club so that it can fund greater publicity for its stick and puck sessions.

The money will allow it to print posters and make a promotional video.

Council officer Ruth Ashwell said: “The Oxford Ice Hockey Club has received significant funding through Chill Out in the past and does provide an excellent facility for children and young people, particularly making the sport more accessible to those who are disadvantaged.”

Another £3,000 is set to be given to Larkmead School to build a multi-use games area for ball sports.

St Matthews Church in East Oxford would be given £500 so it can set up a new youth club for youngsters.

Mrs Hibbert-Biles meets officers at County Hall on Wednesday at 10am to distribute funding. The public can attend.
