Fire pensions debate
9:30am Friday 25th October 2013 in News
Banbury MP Sir Tony Baldry questioned the size of firefighters’ pensions in the Commons.
The Conservative spoke following a four-hour strike on October 3 over plans to make firefighters work up to the age of 60 instead of 55.
He told a Commons debate this week: “Everyone appreciates the work that is done by the fire and rescue service.
“However, is there any reason why firefighters should have a public pension that is more generous than those for the armed forces and for police officers?”
Communities and Local Government Minister Brandon Lewis said: “Firefighters will end up with one of the best schemes in the public sector”.
