DRINKERS are toasting the publication of a guide to the best watering holes in Oxfordshire.

The North Oxfordshire branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (Camra) voted for 28 pubs in the area to be featured in the 2014 edition of the Good Beer Guide.

Members celebrated the launch at the White Horse in North Bar Street, Banbury, last Thursday.

The Fox Inn in Souldern also made it into the guide.

North Oxfordshire Camra branch chairman John Bellinger, above, who lives in Souldern, said traditional pubs needed supporting more than ever.

He said: “The once thriving pub trade has been brought to its knees due to cheap beer and lager on sale in supermarkets, which has led to mass closures.

“Well-run pubs at the bottom of the pecking order suit the needs of their regulars and are often the focus and hub of their communities.”

The new guide contains details of 4,500 of the best UK real ale pubs.

Its pages contain information on 69 Oxfordshire pubs and include 22 new entries from the county.

It also lists 23 Oxfordshire breweries, including three new ones – Fisher and Co in Noke, and Bell Street Brewery and Henley Brewing Co in Henley.
