WE would like to say how proud we are that the city council is to build no fewer than 62 new council homes in Littlemore.

It is heart-breaking to talk with local people who are in desperate need of council houses and flats, when there just aren’t enough to go around. Forty-eight quality houses and flats are to go on the disused allotment site at Minchery Farm.

Eleven homes will replace the outdated Alice Smith House and another three will be built in Cardinal Close.

This is in addition to the elderly people’s flats at Cardinal House a few years ago. The council also hopes to rebuild nine new homes at Eastern House.

This is all part of a city council programme to build hundreds more council homes in Oxford and a new housing development at Barton East. Of course we need even more houses in Oxford.

But at least we will be able to house around 60 families currently in temporary or overcrowded and costly accommodation. We are pleased to see that there will be extra money for Littlemore schools, the library, highway improvements and play areas.

Meanwhile, we will continue to campaign for an improved bus service and a GP’s surgery for Littlemore, for existing and new residents alike.
