VANDALS targeting a village playing field have been branded “mindless” by police.

The Eynsham recreation grounds on either side of Oxford Road were hit by a string of attacks over the summer.

Last night police appealed for information about the graffiti and damage.

PCSO Helen Keen, of the village police team, said: “It is just mindless.

“These people wouldn’t do it to their own property and they wouldn’t take very kindly if someone left graffiti in their bedroom.

“But they think it is OK to do it in a public space that belongs to everybody. There is no need for it.”

Graffiti has been sprayed on the walls of the pavilion and a bench, wooden panels ripped off the building, burn marks found on a window and a bin pulled out of the ground. A fence by the skate park, repaired at the start of the summer, was torn down.

PCSO Keen added: “It looks unsightly for people. It’s not very nice and appealing.

“It doesn’t give a very good impression of Eynsham.”

The officer said there had been a number of cases throughout the summer but the bin and bench were vandalised about two weeks ago.

It will cost hundreds of pounds to repair. Dog walkers and park users are asked to keep an eye out.
