YOUNG people are being offered the chance to go behind the scenes of Oxford’s Pitt Rivers Museum.
The tours are running on Saturday as part of a careers day to show young people the variety of jobs staff carry out behind the exhibitions.
As part of the Collections Care & Careers Day people can drop in to meet and talk to curators, educators, technicians and conservators. The museum project VERVE is running the event.
Curatorial assistant Sian Mundell said: “The day will give young people the chance to see what it is really like to work in a museum.
“There are so many more roles than simply those of curator or conservator, and this event will bring some of those to light.
“Hopefully we can inspire people to think about careers as an education or outreach officer for example, or as a collections photographer or registrar.”
The free event runs from 11am until 4pm at the museum in South Parks Road. Places on the behind the scenes tours, at 11.15am, 12.15pm, 2.15pm and 3.15pm, are limited, so young people will be given priority.
