Paul Marlow used to serve food to the Royal Family, but his life changed dramatically in 2003 after being diagnosed with bladder cancer.
Now he is unable to work and suffers pain when moving around, but the Government has decided that he no longer qualifies for Disability Living Allowance – and he is staggered.
Maggie’s Cancer Care Centre in Oxford is now helping him to appeal, but there is no certainty that he will succeed.
Unfortunately, he is far from alone.
Benefits are being cut – although officials say this crackdown had nothing to do with the ruling on Mr Marlow.
Clearly, there are cases where benefits are being awarded without justification.
But Mr Marlow’s case is being reviewed – and there is a strong case for saying his ruling should be overturned.
