On Monday, September 9, I attended a town council meeting. This is the first time I had ever observed at a council meeting and I was shocked and appalled at the attitude of one of the councillors in particular. During a presentation the councillor was making negative comments which, I’m sure as they were not directed at the full meeting, went unrecorded.

This was in an atmosphere of high etiquette which, although outdated, was pleasant and therefore highlighted the rude behaviour of the councillor in question.

Other councillors that disagreed with points of the presentation showed great dignity and restraint, and for that they gain my respect.

It may be that this errant councillor (who I will not name but I’m sure those present will know to whom I refer) should learn some of these manners and restraint.

As a member of the public, who’d not requested to speak, I was unable to comment at the meeting therefore I shall comment here. I’m very glad that this councillor does not represent me and next time they should listen without supercilious comment to others sitting close to them.
