RACERS can pick from two classic cars in a bid to be crowned Scalextric champion at the Phoenix Picturehouse.

The Walton Street cinema is starting a week-long competition on the toy race track to celebrate the film Rush which the cinema is showing from tomorrow.

Cinema-goers can pick a replica 1976 Ferrari or a model of James Hunt’s McLaren in their attempt to take the chequered flag.

Assistant manager Martin Langley said: “This will be a great fun thing to do at the cinema.

“We all remember playing it when we were younger and now you can challenge the rest of Oxford to try to get to the top of the leaderboard.

“We will be having a Top Gear-style board with competitors’ times so they can see how are they are doing.”

The winner of the fastest lap of the week will win a C1307 Grid Force Scalextric set worth £130.
