WHY on earth did the Ashmolean need to close just because a member of staff sustained “...relatively minor injuries”?
Is this yet another example of our society’s completely unnecessary (and neurotic) health and safety obsession? I strongly suspect so!
Many dozens – if not hundreds – of visitors will have been disappointed to turn up and find it shut.
If the incident really required closing the whole museum for the rest of the day, fair enough – but I seriously doubt it.
Perhaps the Ashmolean’s director would have the courtesy to tell us why this decision was taken?
