OXFORD Spires Academy has been rated good in its first Ofsted inspection.

The East Oxford school, which has nearly 800 pupils, was judged good in every area following an inspection in July, the results of which have just been made public.

Everything from the dedication of headteacher Sue Croft to teaching and behaviour were praised.

Mrs Croft said: “What I am particularly pleased with is the reference to behaviour often being outstanding.

“In all areas in teaching, attainment and leadership, they discussed very strongly the possibility of outstanding, it was right on the cusp each time.

“It was really important for us, because it’s one thing thinking you are doing well and the children knowing they are getting a good deal, but you do want someone to come in and go through with a fine-toothed comb.”

She said the school, which opened in January 2011, was on course to be outstanding and added: “We will probably be looking in a couple of years to ask them back because we do want to be outstanding, that’s what we are aiming for.”
