TARGETS to improve satisfaction among tenants are being missed by Oxford City Council staff.

A performance report to be submitted to the council’s housing scrutiny panel meeting next week has revealed the council is not living up to its own expectations. The council hoped for an 89 per cent satisfaction rating from tenants, but achieved 83.8 per cent .

The report showed the council had been missing targets relating to processing benefit claims and building more homes.

Since April, its average time for processing new housing benefit claims is 24 days – it had been aiming to process them within 14 days.

And the council has only built 17 new affordable homes, compared to a target of 54, but is aiming to build 220 by March 31, 2014.

Oxford City Council spokesman Louisa Dean said: “We are working all the time to improve the way we help people with their claims and our performance continues to get better. In July this year our performance for turning around changes in circumstance was better than the target we set ourselves and this trend has continued into August.

“However, our processing of new claims is faster than last year.”
