MEMBERS of Bicester’s Air Training Corps (ATC) proudly marched through the streets to celebrate receiving the town’s highest honour.
The 100-strong 2507 (Bicester) ATC Squadron received the liberty of Bicester, given to military organisations with a connection to the town, earlier this year.
The honour means in effect that military organisations can march through the town with fixed bayonets, drums beatings and their standard colours flying.
On Sunday the squadron led a parade of members of Bicester-based 23 Pioneer Regiment and US Air Force members from nearby RAF Croughton. Hundreds turned out to honour the squadron at the parade, which was postponed earlier this year because of heavy snow.
The event culminated in a service in the market square.
Town councillor Dan Sames said: “It was a lovely day. The weather held off for the parade and service and the public acknowledged the liberty of the town for the air cadets.
“The honour was to acknowledge the service they have given the town. Over a period of time they have made a significant contribution.”
Bicester Town Council granted the honour to 23 Pioneer in April 2006.
