Police costs rise

RESIDENTS in Oxfordshire will face a two per cent increase in their council tax bills after a rise in Thames Valley Police’s portion was approved.

The Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) Anthony Stansfeld had his proposed rise approved yesterday. The force is also having to save £70m over a six-year period due to Government cuts.

The Authority’s net revenue budget for 2012/13 is £371.162 million, which represents an annual reduction of £15.356 million or 4%.
Thames Valley Police Authority has again taken the decision to freeze the police element of your council tax bill for 2012/13. This entitles the Authority to receive a government grant, equivalent to the income from a council tax increase of 3%.

So my council tax bill is going up despite the authority exercising a decision to freeze the police element of my council tax. Am I reading this correctly?

No stansfeld said on the radio interview with Phil Gayle that the Council Tax increase for the police had gone through, and he said it equates to only £3 a year for the average householder.
