Council warns over tax firm

CHERWELL District Council has urged residents not to take up a company’s offer to seek a cut in their council tax bills.

The authority said some people have received letters from Manchester law firm Randall & Vickers offering to challenge council tax bands on a no-win-no fee basis.

However, the council said successful challenges will see the firm get a quarter of refunded cash plus VAT.

The firm has yet to comment, but the council said residents can appeal to the Valuation Office Agency directly.

Lead member for finance Ken Atack said a number of residents were concerned over the approach but added: “There is absolutely no need to have to go through a third party to check this information.”

Putting properties back into the correct bands is something councils should do as a matter of course. I we stole from them we would be made to pay, so should they.

There is also a chance that your house was incorrectly banded in your favour and you may end up paying more council tax so beware.

That is why it is safer to go through a firm such as this one, at least you still save money, but without the risk of a higher band, as they would see this and not progress. Go for it I say.
