DRIVERS could face delays when the speed limit is temporarily lowered to 10mph on a busy section of the Oxford ring road.

Work to resurface part of the A4142 eastern bypass between the Kiln Lane junction and the Green Road roundabout starts today.

The new surface will improve the skid-resistance of the carriageway.

The temporary 10mph speed limit will be in place while the work is carried out overnight between 10pm and 6am.

The central reserve and turning area at the Kiln Lane junction will also be closed to prevent right turns from the bypass into both Kiln Lane and Beaumont Road. The link between Kiln Lane and the eastern bypass will be closed for westbound traffic but remain open for eastbound traffic.

The temporary speed limit and access restrictions will be in place throughout the week.

Oxfordshire County Council deputy leader Rodney Rose said: “The main concern with a project like this is to ensure we can keep the disruption and inconvenience to a minimum.

“In this case, with one of Oxford’s main arterial routes affected, that means doing the work overnight to ease the pain for commuters.”

He added: “We hope this won’t cause too many problems for people.”
