Tonight Channel 4 premiered a brand new LGBT drama, which, in producer Russell T Davies’ own words, will celebrate the “50 shades of gay”.

Cucumber follows 46-year-old Henry Best (Vincent Franklin) and his long-term boyfriend Lance (Cyril Nri) in the aftermath of the “worst date night in history”.

Hailed as today’s version of Queer as Folk, the show has so far received a great reception on Twitter.

People were also pretty pleased that the Kylie classic Your Disco Needs You was the soundtrack to a scene where Lance boogied around his bathroom.

Piers Wenger, drama head at Channel 4, said that viewers could expect plenty of explicit content.

“In a drama looking at the details of people’s sex lives, whether gay or straight people, of course you are required to bust taboos or ask probing questions. There’s no doubt people will find it challenging but it’s asking intelligent questions in an original way,” he said.

Despite its post-watershed programming, apparently plenty of people on Twitter weren’t expecting the show to be quite so rude. In fact, a fair few people actually watched the show with their parents. Oops.
