Two choirs are set to join forces to perform a Last Night of the Proms-style concert to mark two milestone anniversaries.

There will be more than 130 singers taking part in the concert at Warriner School hall, Bloxham, on Saturday, July 7, at 7.30pm, alongside a 50-strong orchestra.

During the evening, professional soloists will join the line-up for favourites including the Hallelujah Chorus from Messiah, Land of Hope and Glory and Henry Wood’s Fantasia on British Sea Songs.

The concert is being staged to mark special milestones for both organisations.

Banbury Choral Society is celebrating its 70th anniversary and Warriner Choral Society is celebrating its 40th year.

Joint musical director Martin Quinn said: “One of our biggest challenges was to find a venue that could fit up to 200 performers on stage, along with an anticipated audience of over 400 under one roof.

“We are delighted to have secured the fantastic hall at The Warriner School, in Bloxham, that lies on the edge of Banbury in the heart of the beautiful North Oxfordshire countryside.

“We’re just keeping our fingers crossed for a warm summer’s evening, so that our audience can relax in the evening sun, with a glass of wine during the interval.”

Tickets cost £12.50 and will be available online from MADEinCherwell.org or music shop One Man Band, in White Lion Walk, Banbury.
