FAIRPORT Convention violinist Ric Sanders is joining forces with guitarist Vo Fletcher to raise funds for a charity in Africa being run by a former Banbury woman.

The concert will take place at Blessed George Napier School, Addison Road, Banbury, on Saturday, April 14, at 7.30 pm and will feature tunes from Ric and Vo's repertoire of contemporary jazz, folk, and rock.

Money raised will go to EducAid in Sierra Leone, which is run by Miriam Masonm who grew up in Aston-Le-Walls and was a pupil at Blessed George Napier School before going to Africa.

Concert organiser Chris Bates, of Great Bourton, said: "Ric and Vo have agreed to perform for free, so proceeds can go directly to the charity, which provides the only free secondary schools in Sierra Leone.

"Many of the students there are refugees, orphans, and former child soldiers, who would otherwise have no hope of an education."

Tickets for the event are £10, or £5 for students/senior citizens, and can be obtained by calling 01295 758325 or from Banbury Tourist Information Office.

Local band the Fork Handles will support Ric and Vo, and there will be a licensed bar.
