EDUCATION leaders in Blackbird Leys have been told their plans to improve the estate’s schools are “not fit for purpose”.

In March, Windale Community Primary School, part of the Blackbird Leys Academy Trust, was placed in special measures.

As previously reported by the Oxford Mail, one of the trust’s other schools, Orchard Meadow, was rated inadequate last month.

Both schools became part of the trust in August 2013, which also manages the estate’s other primary school, Pegasus.

As part of being in special measures, Windale school now has regular inspections from Ofsted.

Inspector Sarah Hubbard yesterday published a new report, saying the school was still in trouble.

She said: “The academy’s action plans are not coherent enough to help the academy move out of special measures. There are too many separate plans, with different formats that are not clearly linked together.

“Some do not contain enough detail about how and when actions will be monitored, or the expected improvements in pupils’ achievement. These actions are not prioritised sharply enough and the academy’s action plans are not fit for purpose.”

The report said the trustees have made positive steps in the right direction, however.

It added: “Since the previous inspection, the Trustees and the academy’s leaders have made changes that are improving the academy.”

Trust spokesman Ian Caws said: “The trustees are pleased the report records the improvements that have already been made and are working very hard to address the outstanding actions.”
