Richard is a bright spark

A young electrician has been named Britain’s best building services apprentice.

Richard Groves, 24, of Wootton, who works for electrical contractor Lowe & Oliver, was named the winner of the JTL National Apprenticeship Award.

Mr Groves was presented with his award and a cheque for £1,500.

He said: “I spent a demanding four years training as an electrician but I enjoyed every minute of it and can’t imagine doing anything else.”

Denis Hird, chief executive of training firm JTL, said: “We work with more than 6,500 very talented young people nationwide, so to be named Apprentice of the Year is a real achievement and Richard has done brilliantly to win it.”
